Getting to the Stubaital

The Stubaital lies 20–30 km south of Innsbruck – easily reached by train, bus or car. No toll road into the main valley.

🚃 Stubaitalbahn – the Historic Tram

Departure: Innsbruck Südtiroler Platz (directly at the main station) – no transfer required.

Destination: Fulpmes – journey time approx. 55 minutes.

Frequency: Hourly, more frequent in summer. Bicycles allowed.

Ticket: VVT fare or Tyrol Ticket – often included in hotel guest cards.

The Stubaitalbahn has been running since 1904 – one of the oldest trams in the Alps and an experience in itself.

🚌 Stubaital Bus – Direct to Mutterberg

Line 4130/4131 from Innsbruck main station directly into the valley – hourly to Neustift, continuing to Mutterberg.

Journey time: approx. 50 min to Neustift, approx. 70 min to Mutterberg (1,750 m).

From Munich: ICE to Innsbruck (approx. 2 hrs), then bus or train into the Stubaital.

🚗 By Car

From Innsbruck: Via B183 towards Stubaital – approx. 25 min to Fulpmes, approx. 35 min to Neustift. No toll road into the main valley.

From Munich: A8 → A12 Innsbruck West → B183 Stubaital. Approx. 2.5 hours.

Parking: Car parks in Neustift (Elferbahn, Pinnistal) fill up early in summer. Early start before 9 am recommended.

No toll road!

The B183 into the Stubaital to Mutterberg is free for all vehicles. Only ski resort access roads (glacier, Schlick) require a toll.
