The Birgitzköpflhaus towers at 2,035 m on the edge of the Kalkkögel – the impressive rock ridge west of Innsbruck, which is always in sight from Stubaital. Whoever looks from Stubaital to Innsbruck sees the jagged Kalkkögel in the background – the Birgitzköpflhaus is located exactly there.
Location and Character
From here, you can see both: the entire Stubaital to the south and the Inntal to the north. With a föhn wind, the view reaches as far as Munich. The house is not a high-mountain destination, but one of the most beautiful viewpoints around Innsbruck – with a genuine hut character.
Access
From Axams (approx. 15 km west of Innsbruck): Ascent via the tourism trail, approx. 2 hours, 650 meters of elevation gain. Good path, suitable for experienced families.
From Innsbruck by bus to Axams (line N), then on foot.
Combination with Stubaital
Whoever spends several days in Stubaital can plan the Birgitzköpflhaus as a half-day excursion: set off early, ascend from Axams, take a mid-day break with a panoramic view, and return to Stubaital in the afternoon. The travel time from Neustift to Axams is approx. 30 minutes.
The Kalkkögel are, by the way, a popular climbing area – those interested can start several routes directly at the Birgitzköpflhaus.
