Dortmunder Hütte

The Dortmunder Hütte is located at 1,948 m in the Kühtai – conveniently accessible by road. Those looking for high-alpine terrain that differs noticeably from the Stubaital will still find good starting points for summit tours here.

Location and Character

The Kühtai is a high plateau west of Innsbruck at an altitude of about 2,000 m – one of the few areas in the Alps where you’re already at Alpine level in the valley. The Dortmunder Hütte lies on this plateau, at the foot of the Pirchkogel (2,830 m).

Peaceful atmosphere, good accessibility even for less experienced guests thanks to the road access.

Access

From Kühtai: The hut is directly accessible by road – no multi-hour approach on foot required.

From Innsbruck to Kühtai: About 45 minutes via Kematen and the Kühtaier street (toll road from Kematen, about 6 €).

Tours from the Hut

• Pirchkogel (2,830 m) – Summit tour, challenging
• Winnebachseehütte (2,362 m) – Crossing into the Sellrain valley, 3 hours

Combination with Stubaital

A day at Dortmunder Hütte is a deliberate contrast to the Stubaital: here – glaciers and throngs, there – high-altitude solitude. A good option for the second or third day of a Stubaital stay, if you want to see something different.
