The Falbesoner Ochsenalm at 1,822 m is located in the upper area of the Falbesoner Almgebiet in the Pinnistal. As the highest of the Falbesoner alms, it is a destination for hikers with good condition and alpine experience. The view from here of the Kalkkögel is one of the most impressive in the entire Pinnistal.

Location and Atmosphere

At almost 1,850 m, the Pinnistal has largely abandoned its green character. The Ochsenalm lies in an open, alpine zone. The Kalkkögel in the west appear from here in their full height and ruggedness – an impressive contrast to the gentle alpine meadows directly underfoot.

The alp is isolated and little known – that’s not a drawback, but a characteristic. Those who climb up here meet only a few other hikers.

Cuisine

The kitchen is reduced to the essentials: alpine products from own production, Brettljause, soups. The short season means that the offer depends on the respective alpine year – direct inquiry is recommended.

Approach / Ascent

From the Falbesoner Nockalm (about 1 hour further down) or directly from the Pinnistal. Ascent from the valley station 2.5 to 3 hours. The terrain is steep in the upper part and requires sturdy hiking boots.

Combination Options

  • Falbesoner Nockalm: stage on the way up or down
  • Kalkkögel: the nearby cliffs, for experienced climbers and hikers
  • Pinnistal Loop: complete loop through the Falbesoner Almgebiet as a day trip
  • Adolf-Pichler-Hütte: connection trail in the upper Pinnistal

Tips

  • Only for Experienced: the terrain and altitude require solid hiking experience
  • Check opening hours: the short season and small operation make a prior inquiry sensible
  • Combination tour: Nockalm and Ochsenalm as a half-day tour from Pinnistal car park

The Falbesoner Ochsenalm is for all those who want to get to know the Pinnistal thoroughly – not just the well-known Pinnisalm, but also the quiet, high areas behind it.
