The Issenangeralm, located at 1,380 m, is one of the most easily accessible run-of-play hostels in the Stubaital. Its low elevation and simple ascent make it a preferred excursion destination for families with small children - and for all those seeking a relaxing stop without a lengthy climb.

Location and Atmosphere

The Issenangeralm is situated in a sunny alpine area on about 1,400 m above sea level, embedded in the typical low mountain landscape of the Stubaital. At this height, the surrounding area is still green and overgrown with vegetation: alpine meadows, mixed forests, heath fields. The valley floor offers a wide and inviting view.

The atmosphere is warm and uncomplicated. The alp focuses explicitly on families and simple hikers – no mountaineering atmosphere, no hut charm at 2,500 m, but genuine Tyrolean hospitality at a comfortable height.

Cuisine

The Issenangeralm offers what is to be expected from a good alp: open-air snack, soups, Germknödel, Kaiserschmarrn, and fresh milk. For children, there are simple dishes – pancakes, warm soups, and lemonade. The portions are generous, and the prices are fair.

On nice days, the sun terrace is perfect for a long lunch break with a mountain view.

Approach / Ascent

The Issenangeralm is easily accessible from various points in the Stubaital. The shortest footpath takes about 45 to 60 minutes and is easily manageable with children. Well-maintained hiking trails lead to the alp.

For families with strollers or limited mobility, there are also forest roads nearby – inquiries can be made directly at the alp.

Combination options

  • Neustift im Stubaital: As start and end point for a short family round

  • Stubaier Gletscher: Day trip for the big ones, while the children take a break
  • Playgrounds Neustift: Combination with the valley for a full family day

Tips

  • Early arrival: Very popular on nice summer days, secure a place on the terrace early
  • Lead dogs on a leash: Dogs are welcome, but should be kept on a leash due to livestock
  • Rainy weather plan: The Issenangeralm has a covered terrace – also usable on bad weather days
  • Hiking boots: Also recommended for the short ascent instead of sneakers
