The Lizumer Hütte is located in the Lizumer Kessel of the Tuxer Voralpen – a wide valley at 2,019 m, largely unknown and unusually quiet. There is no ski resort, no cable car, and no mass tourism. The hut is a genuine base camp for multi-day Tuxer tours.
Location and Character
The Tuxer Voralpen are the mountains between the Inntal and Zillertal – less dramatic than the Stubaier Alpen, but geographically very appealing: softer grass mountains, alpine atmosphere, good views in all directions. The Lizumer Hütte lies in the middle of this area on a vast alpine terrace.
Much quieter than the Stubaital – you will mainly meet locals and genuine mountaineers here.
Access
From Wattens (Inntal, approximately 20 km east of Innsbruck): Over the toll road into the Lizumer valley – approximately 8 km of paved road to Lisumer Alm parking lot (1,500 m), and then 1.5 hours on foot, 520 meters of ascent.
Toll fee: Approximately €5 for the toll road into the Lizumer valley.
From Stubaital: Via Innsbruck to Wattens, 45 minutes.
Tours from the Hut
- Lizumer Reckner (2,886 m) – a distinctive peak, 2 hours, exposed
- Geier (2,857 m) – a border peak to the Zillertaler Alpen, 2.5 hours
- Fennkopf (2,556 m) – a less strenuous alternative, beautiful panorama
- Wattener Lizum → Navistal Crossing – a multi-day Tuxer route
Combination with Stubaital
A contrast day: in the morning, gentle grass mountains and peaceful atmosphere instead of glacier panorama. The Lizumer Hütte is what the Stubaital might have been – before the cable cars arrived.
