The Müllerhütte at 3.145 meters above sea level belongs to the highest mountain huts in the entire Stubaital. At this altitude, you are already in the realm of eternal snow – the hut is located at the edge of the Stubaier Gletschergebiets and serves as the starting point for challenging high-altitude tours in the Stubaier Hauptkamm.

Location and Atmosphere

The Müllerhütte is embedded in a rugged rock facade, surrounded by glaciers, firn fields, and high-altitude terrain. The view is breathtaking: From this height, you can see numerous three-thousand-meter peaks stretching out in every direction, extending to Tyrol and beyond the main Alpine divide when visibility is good. The hut is no tourist destination – here you meet almost exclusively experienced mountaineers and high-altitude hikers.

The short season – usually only ten to twelve weeks – makes every stay a special experience. The hut keepers operate the Müllerhütte with the awareness that the surrounding terrain is far from forgiving.

Offer and Kitchen

The kitchen is geared towards the basic needs of mountaineers: hearty soups, pasta dishes, Gröstl, and casseroles. For overnight guests, there is half board. Those who spend the night here start the next morning early on glacier tours or peak ascents – the kitchen is tailored to this.

Arrival / Access

Access to the Müllerhütte is only possible on foot and requires alpine experience. Starting points are located in the rear Stubaital. The ascent takes 3 to 5 hours, depending on the route, and leads through glacier forefields, over moraines, and rocky terrain. Parts of the path require trekking poles, depending on the time of year.

Alternatively, the hut is accessible as a stage on the Stubaier Höhenweg, which presents one of the classic multi-day tours in the Stubaier Alps.

Combination Possibilities

  • Stubai High Altitude Trail: The Müllerhütte is an important stage on this long-distance hiking trail
  • Peak Ascents: Access to several three- and four-thousand-meter peaks in the immediate vicinity
  • Glacier Crossings: For experienced groups with the necessary equipment
  • Hildesheimer Hütte: As a day stage, accessible in around 3–4 hours

Tips

  • Equipment: Crampons, ice axe, and rope are essential for peak ascents
  • Weather: At this height, thunderstorms can be extremely hazardous – start early
  • Booking in advance: Booking is essential, as there are limited beds
  • Acclimatization: When ascending from the valley, allow time for altitude adjustment

The Müllerhütte is a place for people who take the high mountains seriously. Those who arrive here have overcome a long journey – and often still have a challenging one ahead of them. The high-alpine ambience of this hut is unmistakable.
