The Nürnberg Hütte at 2,280 m lies at the end of the Langental valley in the southern Stubaital and is one of the largest and most famous huts in the entire Stubai massif. Named after the DAV section of Nuremberg, which has been managing it since 1898, it is a central hub of the Stubaier Höhenweg and starting point for high-altitude tours to the Zuckerhütl (3,507 m), the highest peak of the Stubaier Alps.
Location and Atmosphere
The Langental valley is the southernmost accessible side valley of the Stubaital and leads deep into the Stubaier Hauptkamm mountain range. The Nürnberg Hütte is located at a striking point where the valley widens and the view opens up to Feuerstein, Zuckerhütl and Wilder Freiger – one of the most impressive mountain panoramas in Tyrol.
The hut is large, well-run and professionally managed. The atmosphere is alpine: The guests have concrete plans for the next morning. Multi-day hikers on the Stubaier Höhenweg, mountain climbers, experienced families – all are represented.
Cuisine
Complete mountain hut services: warm midday meals for day visitors, half board for overnight guests. The Nürnberg Hütte has the capacity to supply larger groups. Traditional Tyrolean cuisine, good drink selection. The breakfast is generous – for high-altitude tours, you need it.
Accommodation
90 sleeping places in mattress lagers and multi-bed rooms – one of the larger huts in the Stubaital. Advance booking under +43 5276 8196 is essential, particularly for groups and in July and August. Those walking the Stubaier Höhenweg plan to stay overnight at the Nürnberger Hütte.
Approach / Ascent
Langental car park (end of the Stubaital road, approx. 1,310 m): From the Langental car park, the trail leads directly to the Nürnberg Hütte – approx. 4.5 hours, 970 metres of altitude gain. The trail is well-marked but long. Hiking boots and sufficient water should be brought.
Alternative: Via Mutterbergalm and Wilder Freiger area – only for experienced hikers, high-altitude experiences.

- Wilder Freiger (3,418 m): Classic glacier tour, only with alpine experience.
- Transition to Sulzenau Hütte: Connection over the glacier area.
Tips
- Booking: Book 2–3 weeks in advance, particularly for the Stubaier Höhenweg.
