Ochsenhütte Mieders

Ochsenhütte above Mieders is located at 1.582 m and is a popular day hike destination for locals and visitors of the lower Stubaital valley. The hut is situated in the catchment area of Mieders, the northernmost village in the Stubaital, and offers a rewarding viewpoint over the entry valley and far towards Innsbruck.

Location and Atmosphere

Mieders is known for the Serlesbahn and the Serles ski resort – the Ochsenhütte lies somewhat detached from this area in a quieter Alpine landscape. The slope location allows a wide view into the lower Stubaital valley and towards the north. The terrain is still characterized by larch forests and Alpine meadows.

The hut has a pleasantly uncomplicated character: It is a resting place for hikers and day trippers, without ambitions towards high-mountain atmosphere.

The Ochsenhütte offers classic Tyrolean snacks: snack platter, soups, warm dishes in season, and homemade cakes. The offer is solid and regional. The sun terrace with a view into the valley is the best place on a nice day.

Access / Ascent

From Mieders, a well-marked hiking trail leads to the hut, ascent around 1 to 1.5 hours. The terrain is unproblematic and well-suited for families. Mieders is accessible from Innsbruck by Stubaier Gletscher bus.
