The Patscherkofel (2.246 m) is the backyard mountain of Innsbrucks – and one of the most famous peaks of Tyrol. At the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics, downhill skiing competitions took place here. The mountain lodge below the summit is the classic rest point for all who come up with the cable car or on foot.

Location and Character

From the top station, you have one of the best panoramic views in the region: the entire Inntal from Kufstein to the Brenner, the Nordkette straight across, and to the south – the Stubaital with its 3000-meter peaks. In Föhn weather, you can see from here where you were just before.

The mountain lodge is well-run, family-friendly, and – because it’s easily accessible by cable car – suitable for all fitness levels.

Access

By cable car: Patscherkofelbahn from Igls (near Innsbruck) – about 10 minutes, daily operation (season).

On foot from Patsch (about 960 m): ascent via the normal route, about 2.5 hours, 1,280 m elevation gain. Challenging but rewarding.

From Innsbruck: bus to Igls (about 20 minutes), then cable car. Or by car: Igls is about 25 minutes from Stubaital.

Tours starting from the Mountain Lodge

  • Patscherkofel Summit (2.246 m) – 15 minutes on foot from the mountain lodge
  • Viggarspitze (2.306 m) – summit tour, 1 hour from the mountain lodge
  • Rumer Spitze (2.454 m) – challenging extension, requires sure-footedness

Combination with Stubaital

Travel time Neustift → Igls about 30 minutes. Ideal half-day outing: morning cable car, lunch break at the mountain lodge with panoramic views of Stubaital, afternoon return.
