Sennjochhütte at 2,240 meters lies on the Sennjoch in the Fotschertal, one of the quieter side valleys of the Stubaital. The DAV-Hut is less well-known than the large base stations on the Stubaier Höhenweg, but offers a quiet, almost solitary atmosphere and a special access to the mountain landscape between Kalkkögeln and Serles.

Location and Atmosphere

The Fotschertal branches off south of Innsbruck from the Stubaital and leads into a hardly explored mountain area. The Sennjochhütte lies at the end of this valley on the same-named Joch – a natural pass between different mountain ranges. The view includes the Kalkkögel to the west and the Serles group to the east.

Whoever arrives here meets almost no other walkers. The Sennjochhütte is a secret tip for all those who want to get to know the Stubaital beyond the well-trodden paths.

Kitchen and Offer

The hut offers a simple, solid cuisine: Soups, Gröstl, Caper Spätzle and snack tables. The operators value regionality – products from the valley come onto the table when possible. Overnight stays in the matras beds are possible.

Access / Ascent

The starting point is the Fotschertal, accessible via Kematen near Innsbruck. From there, a marked path leads through the valley and up to the Joch. Ascent time around 2.5 to 3.5 hours. The terrain is varied and technically uncomplicated, but demanding in terms of condition.

Combination possibilities

  • Kalkkögel: The impressive Dolomite cliffs are accessible from the hut
  • Serles (2,717 m): The “Holy Mountain of Tyrol” can be connected via connecting paths
  • Kemater Alm: Located deeper in the valley, a combination option for a multi-day tour
  • Fotschertal Loop: Various loop tours through the Fotschertal possible

Tips

  • Loneliness: The Sennjochhütte is much quieter than the well-known Stubaier Huts – ideal for all who avoid crowds
  • Early ascent: The Fotschertal warms up during the day – start early
  • Fitness level: The ascent is long, but not difficult
  • Dogs: Currently not permitted – inquire in advance

The Sennjochhütte is one of those places in the Stubaital that you don’t stumble upon by chance. Whoever finds the way here will be rewarded with tranquility, originality and a view that few people know and it deserves.
