Stubaier Baumhausweg

The Stubaier Baumhausweg is one of the most popular family routes in the Stubaital – and for good reason. Along 6 km from the Froneben/Schlick 2000 mid-station to the Alpengasthof Vergör, several treehouses await, inviting children to climb, look and marvel. Mostly downhill, suitable for children from 3 years old.

Why the Baumhausweg?

Not every hiking day has to be a summit day. The Baumhausweg is for those days when the little ones are in charge. The treehouses are artfully built into the tree canopies – some with ladders, others with bridges, all safe and freely accessible. Those with children who otherwise wouldn’t feel like hiking will bring them here.

Dogs are also most welcome – the path is wide enough and relatively traffic-free.

Route Description

Start at the Froneben mid-station / Schlick 2000 (approx. 1,356 m): The entrance is well signposted, reachable via the Kreuzjochbahn from Fulpmes.

First Treehouse Area (approx. km 1.5): The first group of treehouses invites a break. Children climb, parents rest.

Forest paths (km 2–4): Quiet forest tracks through mixed mountain forest, mostly downhill. Also manageable on some sections with a stroller (good all-terrain sports stroller).

Further Treehouse Area (approx. km 4): Second station with larger treehouse ensemble.

Finish at Alpengasthof Vergör (km 4–6): The route ends at the Alpengasthof Vergör – from there, return by bus or gondola.

Requirements

• No fitness requirements
• Children from 3 years old are great
• Strollers are possible (stable ground)
• Dogs are recommended on a leash
• Also accessible after rain (forest path)

Tips

• Provision: Pack a picnic – in the forest there are table-bench groups
• Best Time: Throughout the year – in winter especially magical (bring sleds)
• Time to Plan: 2 hours minimum – children want to explore the treehouses, that takes time
• Combination: Finish with a stop at the Alpengasthof Vergör

The Stubaier Baumhausweg is not a great mountain adventure – but it’s what many family hikes in the Stubaital make possible. Children who were here will want to come back.
