Franz-Senn Hut Stubai Valley: Hike through the Oberbergtal, 9 km, 850 m elevation gain – to the famous DAV hut at 2,147 m, starting from the Parking Lot at Oberbergtal.

The Oberbergtal is the most impressive side valley in the Stubai Valley – and the hike to the Franz-Senn Hut at 2,147 m takes you through its entire length. 9 km, 850 meters of elevation gain, four hours of ascent through a landscape that transforms from the valley floor to the high mountains: brook gorges, alpine meadows, stone fields, and finally the famous DAV hut with a view of the Fernauferner and the Ruderhofspitze (3,473 m). That’s a hiking day you won’t forget.

Why this tour?

The Franz-Senn Hut is one of the most famous alpine huts in Tyrol – named after the mountaineer-priest and DAV co-founder Franz Senn. Who hikes to the hut is not just going into the mountains. He’s going into alpine history. The Oberbergtal has a landscape quality that’s hard to beat: a wide valley, clear streams, views of three-thousanders, peace and quiet.

The tour is perfect as a day trip with a break on the hut – or as the first night of a multi-day high-altitude tour.

Route description

Start Parking Lot at Oberbergtal (Gasthof Oberberger Hof, approximately 1,380 m): From the parking lot, you head downhill on the broad hiking trail. The first 45 minutes are flat through the valley.

Steeper ascent (approximately 1 hour): Behind the Karalm, the terrain becomes alpine – the trail steepens, and rocks and boulders become more prominent. Well-marked, but sturdy hiking boots are essential here.

Franz-Senn Hut (2,147 m): Arrival after approximately 4 hours. The hut lies on a broad alpine meadow, and the view of the Fernauferner and Ruderhofspitze is the panorama you’ve climbed for.

Descent: Same route back, approximately 3 hours.
