The Habicht (3277m) is one of the Seven Summits Stubai: a classic Alpine summit tour with 2313 meters of ascent from Ranalt – challenging, rewarding, and with one of the widest panoramas of the Stubaital.

The Habicht (3.277 m) is one of the most striking peaks of the Stubaital – and part of the legendary Seven Summits Stubai, the summit program of the Tourism Association. From Ranalt, it’s a long and demanding day, but the view from the summit – over to the Stubaier Glacier, down into the Inntal valley – is one of the most impressive in the entire Tyrolean Alpine region.

Why the Habicht?

The Habicht represents what classic mountaineering is all about: a long approach, a deserved summit, no lift, no shortcut. With 2,313 meters of ascent from Ranalt, it’s the most physically demanding of the Seven Summits Stubai – whoever attempts it goes all in.

Once you reach the top, the panorama on a clear day stretches from the Zillertaler Alps to the Ötztaler summits.

Route Description

Start at Ranalt (ca. 1.690 m): From the Grawa Alm car park follow the marked trail downhill.

Grawa Alm / Grawa Waterfall (ca. 1.745 m): The broad waterfall marks the beginning of the ascent. Here the path to the Habicht branches off.

Pinnis Plateau (ca. 2.369 m): The first major crossing – already spectacular in landscape terms, with views back into the Pinnistal valley.

Habicht Ridge (ca. 2.800–3.100 m): The ridge leads to the summit build-up. On secured stairs, in some sections exposed, but well-marked.

Habicht Summit (3.277 m): Summit cross, 360° panorama, earned rest spot.

Requirements

  • Very good physical condition necessary (14+ hours of hiking time)
  • Good balance and no fear of heights essential
  • Early start recommended (threat of thunderstorms from midday)
  • Sturdy hiking boots, walking poles sensible
  • No dogs – too demanding and narrow ridge

Tips

  • Intermediate overnight stay: If you don’t want to do it all in one day, you can stop overnight on the Innsbruck Hut and split the tour
  • Best Time: July to September, after several days of fine weather
  • Weather: Check the weather forecast and the Mountain Weather Service Tyrol
  • Provisions: Bring plenty of water – there is no source on the ridge

The Habicht is a genuine mountain summit for serious mountaineers – not a hike, but an Alpine tour that demands full concentration and good preparation.
