Karalm Runde – Pinnistal

The Karalm Runde takes you through the Pinnistal, the distinctive side valley of the Stubaital near Neustift. 7 km, 350 m elevation gain, a family-friendly hike with stop at the Karalm and views of the 3,000-metre peaks of the Stubai Main Ridge.

Why this tour?

The Pinnistal is the access valley for the Innsbrucker Hütte and the Habicht, but also offers rewarding shorter outings. The Karalm lies halfway down the valley – far enough for an alpine feel, close enough for families with children. The route on two different paths provides a change of scenery.

This tour is ideal for the first day in Stubaital or for anyone who needs a relaxing day after a strenuous tour.

Route description

Start at Neder/Zegger car park (ca. 970 m): From the car park, walk into the Pinnistal on the wide hiking trail – initially flat through the valley floor.

To the Karalm (approx. 1 hour): Steady ascent through woodland and alpine meadows. The views of the peaks of the Stubai Main Ridge open up gradually. The Karalm lies on a small alpine terrace – rest, refreshments.

Return journey (approx. 1 hour): On a slightly different path on the opposite side of the valley back to the car park – quieter, narrower, with different views.

Refreshment options

Karalm (1,737 m): Simple alpine food, snack, drinks. Dog-friendly on the patio.

Requirements

• No mountain experience necessary
• Good hiking shoes recommended (return journey slightly more challenging)
• Dogs: welcome, lead on the alp
• Families: suitable for children from 5-6 years old

• Quiet setting: The Karalm lies away from the main route to the Innsbrucker Hütte – accordingly relaxed.
