Miederer Berg is one of the classic home mountains in the Stubaital valley. The tour from the Serlesbahnen in Mieders leads up to the Miederer Berg plateau on well-maintained forest roads, offering a free view of the Stubaital, Serles, and – if the weather is clear – even into the Inntal valley. A tour that should not be missing from the Stubai biker’s repertoire.
Why this tour?
Mieders is one of the sunniest villages in the Stubaital and the starting point for a handful of nice bike tours. The Serlesbahnen offer a well-equipped starting point with a parking lot, sanitary facilities, and a café for refreshments before or after the tour. The Miederer Berg itself is not a alpine summit, but a wooded plateau with an alpine character – this makes the tour accessible and yet exciting.
With 716 meters of elevation gain on a good 8 kilometers, the average gradient is in the moderate range, with some steeper sections in between. Regular bikers can manage the ascent in under two hours. With an E-Bike, even hobby cyclists can tackle the ascent with ease.
Route description
Start at Serlesbahnen Mieders (around 870 m): The Serlesbahn valley station is located on the town outskirts of Mieders. From the parking lot, follow the signposted forest road northwest up the hill – the first 500 meters on asphalt, then gravel.
Lower Forest Area (around km 1-4): The forest road rises steadily through coniferous forest. The way is broad and easily passable. Occasionally, glimpses of Mieders and the valley below open up.
Steeper Middle Section (around km 4-6): Here, the road becomes noticeably steeper. A short section with up to 15% gradient demands the quadriceps – bikers with a bit of muscle power will shift into a smaller gear. E-Bikers briefly increase their support.
Miederer Berg Plateau (around km 7-8, around 1,580 m): The plateau opens up. Alpine meadows, larches, and – depending on the season – alpenroses define the landscape. A resting place with benches invites you to take a break. The view of the Serles from here is particularly impressive.
Descent (around km 8-16.2): The same route back to Mieders. The descent on the broad forest road is fun, but requires concentration in the curves. Loose gravel and wet sections after rain are possible.
