The MTB Stubaital Almrunde is one of the most beautiful bike tours in Tyrol: 28 km through the entire Stubaital, from Neustift in the north to the Mutterbergalm in the south, with 900 meters of elevation gain on wide forest roads and alpine trails – no technical enduro terrain, but a conditionally challenging endurance tour through one of the most picturesque valley landscapes in the Alps.
Why this tour?
The Stubaital is unique for bikers: The valley road is closed to motor vehicles (only for residents), but open to cyclists. This means no car fumes, no overtaking, no stress – the entire valley belongs to cyclists, walkers, and cows. Several alps on the way offer stops, which you certainly deserve.
With an e-bike, the tour is much more comfortable – the 900 meters of elevation gain are easily manageable with motor assistance. Muscle power is also possible, but those who underestimate it will soon be pushing their bike at a climb.
Route description
Start Neustift Center (approximately 1,000 meters): From the town center of Neustift, it goes south on the valley bike path. The first kilometers are almost flat – easy to roll.
Fulpmes-Telfes (approximately 20 minutes): Through the middle valley floor, past Fulpmes. Those who want to go to the Schlickeralm – branch off Schlick 2000 Gondel here.
Mieders (approximately 40 minutes): The valley becomes narrower, the forest road rises slightly.
Ranalt – Grawa (approximately 1.5 hours): In the upper valley section, it becomes noticeably uphill. The Grawa Alm is an ideal rest point.
Mutterbergalm (approximately 1,750 meters, approximately 3.5 hours of ascent): The goal. Panorama, refreshments, relaxation. Those who arrive early enough will even take a short trip to the Gletscherbahn mountain station.
Descent (approximately 1.5 hours): 750 meters downhill to Neustift – on a wide forest road, quickly but controllably. This is the fun part of the tour.
