New Regensburger Hut – Pinnistal

The hike to the New Regensburger Hut leads through the entire Pinnistal: from the valley floor near Neustift through the quiet, wooded valley zone, past the Pinnisalm, and then steeply uphill to the high-altitude alpine terrace, where the DAV hut is located at 2,286 m. It’s a tour that shows how the Stubaital changes: from green and wooded below to rock and wide views above.

Why this tour?

The Pinnistal is the quietest of the Stubaital side valleys. The New Regensburger Hut is its highest destination – and one of the least crowded managed huts in the Stubaital. Those who climb up here have the valley and the hut largely to themselves. The ascent is long, but without alpine difficulties – demanding due to its length, not due to technique.

Route description

Start Parking lot Pinnisbach (approx. 1,100 m): From the parking lot, it goes on the valley floor in the direction of Pinnistal. Well-marked hiking trail, slightly ascending.

Pinnisalm (1,369 m, approx. 1.5 hours): First rest stop. Rest, have a snack – and then decide: continue or turn back. Those who are less fit can wait or descend here.

Steep ascent (approx. 1.5 hours): Behind the Pinnisalm, the path becomes significantly steeper. The terrain opens up, rock and alpine meadows alternate. The last 200 meters of elevation before the hut are the steepest.

New Regensburger Hut (2,286 m): Arrival. Rest, have a snack. Those who want to continue: towards the Serles summit or further towards the Innsbrucker Hütte. Descent on the same path approx. 3 hours.

• Pinnisalm (1,369 m): Good alpine cuisine, Tyrolean specialties
• New Regensburger Hut (2,286 m): Full-fledged hut cuisine, half-board when staying overnight

Requirements

• Medium to good physical condition: 950 meters of elevation is a long ascent
• Hiking boots required
• At least 2 liters of water
• Rain jacket and cold protection

Tips for the tour

• Early start: No later than 7:30 am at the parking lot – the ascent is long.
• Pinnisalm as a buffer: If you notice at the Pinnisalm that your physical condition is not sufficient – better turn back than risk it.
