The Pinnistal is the quietest of the Stubaital side valleys – no ski resort, no cable car operation, no mass tourism. The Pinnistaler Rundwanderung leads through this quiet valley and shows the Stubaital from its most relaxing side: alpine pastures, mountain streams, the Serles Massif as a backdrop, and the traditional Pinnisalm as a rest spot in the middle. A family tour that also works for beginners and offers an enjoyable half-day for experienced hikers.
Why this tour?
The Pinnistal has no souvenir shops at its parking lot. Those who come here come for the landscape. The round connects the two valley slopes: on the way down near the stream, on the way back a bit higher up the slope with other views. In between the Pinnisalm – the ideal stopping point.
For families with children, the Pinnistal is ideal: the trail is well-marked, the slope is moderate, and the stream will magically attract every six-year-old.
Route description
Start Parkplatz Pinnisbach (approx. 1,100 m): The parking lot is located at the entrance of the Pinnistal, just behind Neustift. From here, it leads downward on a broad hiking trail – the first 30 minutes almost flat.
Ascent to Pinnisalm (approx. 1 hour): After the flat start, the trail gradually ascends – forest section, then open alpine meadows. The Pinnisalm appears on a small terrace above the stream bed.
Pinnisalm (1,369 m): Rest and refreshment. Those who want to continue (Neue Regensburger Hütte, Innsbrucker Hütte) turn off here. For the round tour: brief rest, then descent.
Return journey on the other side of the valley (approx. 1 hour): The return journey leads on the opposite side of the valley back to the parking lot – a bit narrower than the outward journey, with other perspectives on the valley.
Refreshment options
The Pinnisalm (1,369 m) is the only refreshment option on this round – but a good one. Tyrolean cuisine, large kaiserschmarrn, dog-friendly terrace.
Requirements
- No mountain experience required, good condition for children recommended
- Sturdy hiking boots recommended (the return trail can be wet)
- Dogs: welcome, leash required at the hut
Tips for the tour
- Stream crossings: In early summer, the small stream bridges may be wet – water-repellent shoes recommended.
- Appreciate the silence: The Pinnistal is unusually quiet for a tourist valley – turn off your phone to appreciate it.
- Extension possible: For those who want more, continue to the Neue Regensburger Hütte from the Pinnisalm.
- Best travel time: June (alp opening, green pastures) and September (larches, calm).
The Pinnistaler Rundwanderung is the opposite of the Stubaier Gletscher-Massentourismus – just around the corner, but in a different world.
