Quellenweg Mieders

The Quellenweg Mieders is a themed path around the theme of water: It connects natural springs, water outflows, and stream courses in the municipal area of Mieders and shows how rich the underground of this valley is with fresh mountain water.

Why the Quellenweg?

Water is the lifeblood of the Stubaital valley. While the well-known Wilde Wasser Weg follows the big river, the Quellenweg shows the small format: Springs that emerge from the rock, small streams that run through meadows, and the silent power of groundwater in a valley shaped by glaciers.

A relaxed path for curious hikers who want to take a close look.

Route Description

Start Village Square Mieders (approximately 870 m): Well-signposted from the center of the village. First Spring Station at the village edge.

Mountain paths above Mieders (approximately 1,000–1,500 m): The path leads in moderate zigzag through forest and meadows, again and again passing by springs. Information boards explain geology and water management.

Upper Spring Area (approximately 1,400–1,600 m): Here lie the most abundant springs. Free view over Mieders and the lower Stubaital valley.

Descent to Mieders: Return path on partly different trail through meadow landscape.

Requirements

• Classified as “easy”, but 767 meters of ascent are respectable for “easy” – plan your condition accordingly
• Normal hiking clothing and shoes
• Dogs allowed
• Children more suitable from age 10 (length and altitude)

Tips

• Drink water: The water at the spring stations is drinkable – refill your bottle
• Best time: Spring to autumn; in spring, the springs are at their most abundant
• Combination: Then visit the village square in Mieders

The Quellenweg is a quiet, contemplative path – infrequently frequented, rich in content, and with the bonus that you know where the water in Mieders comes from by the end of the day.
