The MTB Serles Viewtrail tour combines the best of two worlds: a challenging ride on medium terrain and one of the most scenic views in the northern Stubaital valley. The tour is named after the Serles, a prominent freestanding peak at 2,717 meters, which dominates the southern end of the Mieders valley and presents an impressive sight from many points along the route.
Why this Tour?
Schönberg lies at the northern entrance of the Stubaital, directly on the Brennerautobahn – and yet, a quiet bike tour begins here. The Schönberg Center offers a large parking area, and the route immediately heads into the green slopes away from traffic. With 708 meters of elevation gain on just under 19 km, this is a solid medium tour that even less conditioned bikers with an E-Bike can handle.
The view of the Serles develops with every meter of elevation – until you reach the highest point of the tour and have the felsgipfel in front of you. That’s one of those moments for which you get on your bike.
Route Description
Start Schönberg Center (ca. 610 m): From the parking area, you first ride on asphalt through the village, then switch to gravel paths and tackle the first elevation gains.
Affenahrt through Schönberger Woods (ca. km 1–6): The road climbs at a steady pace. Wide forest paths lead through the mixed forest, where occasional far-off views of the Inntal and the opposite mountains open up. You can ride at a leisurely pace – the ascent is long enough.
Highplateau Serles View (ca. km 6–10, ca. 1,300 m): As soon as the woods become less dense, you ride onto an open high plateau offering views of the Serles. On a clear day, you can also see the Stubaier Gletscher region in the background. Take time for a leisurely break.
Descent to Mieders (ca. km 10–15): The descent runs on wide forest paths to Mieders. The road is bike-friendly, but beware of a few curves, especially when the ground is wet.
Return Route Mieders – Schönberg (ca. km 15–18.6): Ride back to the starting point on the valley bike path. The last few kilometers are flat and serve as a relaxing conclusion.
