Stubaier High Route

The Stubaier High Route is one of the most beautiful multi-day mountain hut hikes in the Eastern Alps. On 8 stages, it connects the most important mountain huts in the Stubai Valley – from Elferhütte to Innsbrucker Hut – and leads through picturesque alpine landscapes at 2,000–3,000 meters above sea level.

Why Hike the Stubaier High Route?

Those who really want to get to know the Stubai Valley should leave the valley. The high route shows the high mountains from a perspective that day visitors rarely see: glacier panoramas, lonely basins, ridges, and snowfields – and in the evening, the cozy atmosphere of the mountain huts with other hikers.

Each stage ends at a mountain hut, making the route logistically manageable – no tent, no large equipment, just a daypack.

An Overview of the 8 Stages

Stage 1: Elferhütte – Starkenburger Hut (approx. 4–5 hours) Stage 2: Starkenburger Hut – Franz-Senn-Hut (approx. 5–6 hours) Stage 3: Franz-Senn-Hut – New Regensburger Hut (approx. 6–7 hours) Stage 4: New Regensburger Hut – Sulzenau Hut (approx. 4–5 hours) Stage 5: Sulzenau Hut – Nürnberger Hut (approx. 4–5 hours) Stage 6: Nürnberger Hut – Becherhaus (challenging, with glacier crossing) Stage 7: Becherhaus – Müller Hut / Transitions to Innsbrucker Hut Stage 8: Descent to the Pinnistal to Innsbrucker Hut (approx. 3–4 hours)

Requirements

• Multi-day high alpine experience necessary
• Good footwear and no fear of heights on secured trails
• Crampons and ice ax for certain stages – consult a guidebook
• Hut reservation strongly recommended, especially in July-August
• Dogs not allowed (nature reserve, hut conditions)

Tips

• Reservations: Hut beds are quickly booked in summer – book at least 4-6 weeks in advance
• Best Time: July to mid-September (all crossings snow-free)
• Equipment: Shuttle service from some valleys available to transport main luggage
• Variation: The route can be shortened or started at various points
