Wild Water Way - one of Tyrol’s most famous thematic trails
The Ruetz flows through the entire Stubaital, from Fulpmes to Mutterbergalm, on a 14 km route that follows the river closely, sometimes through gorges and sometimes over alpine pastures. The Grawa Waterfall is the highlight of this trail.
Why the Wild Water Way?
The Stubaital is characterized by glacial water. The Ruetz flows through the entire valley - fed by the Stubaier Glacier and side streams. The Wild Water Way follows this water: past waterfalls, rapids, and cascades, through gorges that are not normally visible.
No steep climb, no summit ambitions - the Wild Water Way is a hike for all who want to experience the water, the silence, and the valley itself.
Trail description
Start Fulpmes (ca. 930 m): From the Schlick 2000 Gondola parking lot, follow the marked Wild Water Way trail.
Mieders - Schönberg (ca. 5 km): Gentle valley sections, broad paths, the Ruetz is always within earshot.
Ranalt (ca. 9 km): The valley narrows, the gorges deepen. Several bridges over the Ruetz.
Grawa Alpine Pasture (ca. 12 km): A stop at the Grawa Alpine Pasture - an ideal rest point.
Grawa Waterfall (ca. 13 km): Austria’s widest waterfall - over 80 meters wide at snowmelt. Impressive from close up.
Mutterberg Alpine Pasture (ca. 1.750 m): End of the tour - with views of the Stubaier Glacier.
Return
By Stubaital Bus from Mutterberg back to Fulpmes or Neustift - the bus runs several times a day. No back-and-forth climb needed.
