The Adolf-Pichler-Hütte at 1,977 m is located in the picturesque Pinnistal, one of the most beautiful side valleys of the Stubaital. The Austrian Alpine Association Hut is named after the Tyrolean poet and naturalist Adolf Pichler (1819–1900), who lovingly described the Stubaital in his works. Today, the hut is a popular starting point for hikes and mountain tours in the western Stubaital.

Location and Atmosphere

The Pinnistal offers an impressive backdrop: to the south, the Kalkkögel rise up, those characteristic dolomite cliffs that separate the Stubaital from the Brenner route. The Adolf-Pichler-Hütte lies in a quiet, largely untouched alpine landscape on almost 2,000 m altitude. The transition from alpine meadows to rocky high mountain landscape takes place exactly here.

The hut is smaller and less frequented than the large DAV huts in the Stubaital – that makes it a special destination for all who are looking for the original. The atmosphere is personal and calm.

Kitchen and Offerings

The hut offers classical Tyrolean hut cuisine: Tyrolean Gröstl, cheese spaetzle, soups, and snack plates. The portions are homemade, and the price for the experience is fair. Homemade cakes and strudels are also available.

For overnight guests, half board is available. The bed capacity is manageable – who wants to spend the night should book in advance.

Arrival / Ascent

The ascent takes place from the Pinnistal, which can be reached from Neustift in the Stubaital. From the Pinnisalm parking lot, a marked hiking trail leads to the hut – ascent time about 1.5 to 2 hours. The trail is well-maintained and leads through varied terrain: initially through meadows, then into rockier terrain.

Combination Possibilities

  • Kalkkögel: The Kalkkögel are the striking landmark of the western Stubaital – from the hut, trails lead into this fascinating dolomite area
  • Pinnisalm: In the lower valley area, as a stage on the way down (about 1 hour)
  • Kirchdachspitze (2,840 m): One of the most rewarding peaks in the area, accessible from the hut
  • Serles (2,717 m): The “holy mountain of Tyrol,” access via connecting trails possible

Tips

  • Kalkkögel-Tours: Some routes in the Kalkkögel require sure-footedness and fearlessness – inquire in advance
  • Quiet Alternative: The Adolf-Pichler-Hütte is less known than the large Stubaier huts – who is looking for peace and quiet is right here
  • Pinnistal combination: Combination with the Pinnisalm in the lower valley for a rewarding day trip
  • Advance Booking: Recommended, especially for overnight stays

The Adolf-Pichler-Hütte is a quiet place with great impact. The Pinnistal and the Kalkkögel belong to the least crowded areas of the Stubaital – that’s exactly what makes this hut special.
