The Pinni Valley is the quietest of the Stubai Valley side valleys – and the Pinnisalm at 1,369 m is its heart. A traditional Tyrolean Alpine dairy farm, run by generations, in a valley that is equally appreciated by mountaineers and hikers: as a starting point for high-altitude tours to the Innsbruck Hütte and New Regensburg Hütte, but also as a destination for a relaxed family outing.

Location and Atmosphere

The Pinni Valley branches off just south of Neustift from the main valley and leads towards the Serles Massif. The Pinnisalm is located in the lower part of the valley, nestled between meadows and mountain forest, with the Serles Massif as a backdrop. The stream that flows through the valley is swollen in early summer – in high summer, a delightful babbling brook.

The farm is the opposite of loud and touristy: Here come regular customers who have been visiting the Pinni Valley for many years. Who has been here once will come again.

Cuisine

Homemade Tyrolean cuisine – soups, snack plates, Kaiserschmarrn, and what the season has to offer. The Pinnisalm is not a design hut: Wooden tables, generous portions, honest prices. The milk comes from their own cows, which can be observed on the pasture.

Tip: The Kaiserschmarrn of the Pinnisalm has a reputation in the region. Many people wait for a portion on their way down.

Overnight Stay

The Pinnisalm offers simple mattress bunks for hikers who would like to stay overnight in the Pinni Valley – ideal as a stopover on the way to the New Regensburg Hütte or the Innsbruck Hütte. The capacity is limited: Early reservation at +43 5226 4025 is strongly recommended.

Staying overnight here, early departure the next morning – the Pinni Valley is then yours alone.

Arrival / Ascent

By Car: Parking lot Pinnisbach at the entrance to the Pinni Valley (toll in the season). From there on foot to the Pinnisalm: approx. 1.5 hours, 300 meters elevation gain – well-marked path, also manageable for families.

On Foot from Neustift: From Neustift town center approx. 2 hours – the more beautiful, but longer path.

Strollers: Possible on the lower section up to the first farm; afterwards narrower path.

Combination Possibilities

  • New Regensburg Hütte (2,286 m): Further ascent from the Pinnisalm approx. 2.5 hours – the logical extension for fit hikers.
  • Innsbruck Hütte (2,369 m): The most challenging goal in the Pinni Valley – from the Pinnisalm approx. 3.5 hours.
  • Pinni Valley Round Hike: Easy round hike through the entire lower Pinni Valley – ideal for families without summit ambitions.

Tips

  • Early Start: The Pinni Valley is a popular ascent valley to the high-altitude huts – those who come early have the peace and quiet.
  • Dogs: Welcome, but on pasture meadows, please keep on a leash.
  • Weather: The Pinni Valley is wind-protected, but thunderstorms can roll in quickly. Departure before 2 PM is recommended.
  • Best Travel Time: June (farm opening, fresh mountain flowers) and September (quiet, larches start to turn red).

The Pinnisalm is the ideal first step into the high mountains of the Stubai Valley – close enough for a day trip, deep enough in the valley that you experience the Stubai Valley free of mass tourism.
